We, the congregation of the Church of Deep Ecology covenant to affirm and promote;
• The well-being and flourishing of human and non-human life on Earth have value in themselves. These values are independent of the usefulness of the non-human world for human purposes.
• Richness and diversity of life forms contribute to the realization of these values and are also values in themselves.
• Humans have no right to reduce this richness and diversity except to satisfy vital needs.
• The flourishing of human life and cultures is compatible with a substantial decrease of the human population. The flourishing of non-human life requires such a decrease.
• We recognize and support a right for individual of all backgrounds to have access to reproductive services which allow safe family planning options including birth-control and abortion services.
• Present human interference with the non-human world is excessive, and the situation is rapidly worsening.
• Policies must therefore be changed. The changes in policies affect basic economic, technological, and ideological structures. The resulting state of affairs will be deeply different from the present.
• The ideological change is mainly that of appreciating quality (dwelling in situations of inherent worth) rather than adhering to an increasingly higher standard of living. There will be a profound awareness of the difference between big and great.
• Those who subscribe to the foregoing points have an obligation directly or indirectly to participate in the attempt to implement the necessary changes.
• The inherent worth and dignity of Nature and a recognition that the well-being and flourishing of human and nonhuman life on Earth have value in themselves . These values are independent of the usefulness of the nonhuman world for human purposes.
• We recognize that current industrial agricultural practices are detrimental to life on this planet . We support and believe in a conscious shift to a more local, organic and Vegan lifestyle.
• The goal of world community with peace, liberty and justice for all;
• Respect for the interdependent web of all existence of which we are a part. The living tradition which we share draws from many sources:
• Direct experience of that transcending mystery and wonder, affirmed in all cultures, which moves us to a renewal of the spirit and an openness to the forces which create and uphold life;
• Words and deeds of individual which challenge us to confront powers and structures of evil with justice, compassion and the transforming power of love;
• We find value in the teachings of many cultural and religious traditions which embrace a respect for the Natural world
• Spiritual teachings of Earth-centered traditions which celebrate the sacred circle of life and instruct us to live in harmony with the rhythms of nature. Grateful for the religious pluralism which enriches and ennobles our faith, we are inspired to deepen our understanding and expand our vision. We enter into this covenant, promising to one another our mutual trust and support.
